Preparing for Your Exam

 

ABDOMEN / GALLBLADDER ULTRASOUND

Do not eat or drink anything for at least 6 to 8 hours before your procedure. Anything you eat or drink may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis. If you have medication that can’t wait until after your procedure, take with the least amount of water possible.

 

ARTERIAL DOPPLER OF THE UPPER EXTREMITIES

No prep is needed for this procedure.

 

ARTERIAL DOPPLER OF THE LOWER EXTREMITIES

Do not eat or drink anything for at least 6 to 8 hours before your procedure. Anything you eat or drink may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis. If you have medication that can’t wait until after your exam, take with the least amount of water possible.

 

AORTA ULTRASOUND

Do not eat or drink anything for at least 6 to 8 hours before your procedure. BLADDER ULTRASOUND

Drink 32 ounces of water beginning an hour and a half before your appointment time and hold. You should finish your water before arriving at the facility to ensure you are ready for your procedure. Failure to fill your bladder may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis.

 

BREAST ULTRASOUND

No prep is needed for this procedure.

 

CAROTID ULTRASOUND

Please do not wear jewelry around your neck to your procedure.

Wear a shirt with a low neckline to your procedure.

 

ECHOCARDIOGRAM

No prep is needed for this procedure.

 

ECHOCARDIOGRAM, STRESS

You may have only a light meal prior to your procedure.  This will reduce the risk of stress (exercise) induced nausea after a heavy meal.

Do not drink or eat anything containing caffeine for 12 hours prior to your procedure. This includes decaf coffee (contains a small amount of caffeine).

Refrain from smoking for 12 hours prior to your procedure.

Wear walking or running shoes and comfortable clothing appropriate for exercise to your procedure.

 

HYSTEROSONOGRAM

Drink 32 ounces of water beginning an hour and a half before your appointment time and hold. You should finish your water before arriving at the facility to ensure you are ready for your procedure. Failure to fill your bladder may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis.

 

INGUINAL / GROIN ULTRASOUND

No prep is needed for this procedure.

 

KIDNEY ULTRASOUND

Do not drink or eat anything for at least 6 hours prior to your procedure. If your physician has ordered a kidney and bladder ultrasound please see bladder ultrasound for prep.

 

OBSTETRICAL (OB) ULTRASOUND

Drink 32 ounces of water beginning an hour and a half before your appointment time and hold. You should finish your water before arriving at the facility to ensure you are ready for your procedure. Failure to fill your bladder may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis.

 

PELVIC ULTRASOUND

Drink 32 ounces of water beginning an hour and a half before your appointment time and hold. You should finish your water before arriving at the facility to ensure you are ready for your procedure. Failure to fill your bladder may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis.

 

PROSTATE ULTRASOUND, TRANSRECTAL

You will need to purchase a fleet enema and use 2 to 4 hours prior to your procedure. Follow the instructions on the package for proper usage.

 

RENAL ARTERY DUPLEX ULTRASOUND

Do not eat or drink anything for at least 6 to 8 hours before your procedure. Anything you eat or drink may make it impossible for the technologist to provide your physician with the information needed to make a proper diagnosis.

 

SOFT TISSUE / SOFT TISSUE NECK ULTRASOUND

No prep is needed for this procedure.

 

STROKE SCREENING

Please do not wear jewelry around your neck to your procedure.

Do not eat or drink anything for at least 6 to 8 hours before your procedure.

Wear a shirt with a low neckline and short sleeves or sleeves that can easily be pushed up.

Wear shorts or pants with legs that can easily be pushed up.

 

TESTICULAR ULTRASOUND

No prep is needed for this procedure.

 

THYROID ULTRASOUND

Please do not wear jewelry around your neck to your procedure.

Wear a shirt with a low neckline to your procedure.

 

VENOUS DOPPLER OF THE UPPER OR LOWER EXTREMITIES

No prep is needed for these procedures.
