Fluoroscopy

What is a Fluoroscopy?

Fluoroscopy is an enhanced X-ray that produces images on a television-like monitor. This test is used in diagnosing problems of the digestive tract, kidneys, and gallbladder. A contrast agent is needed to amplify the area of interest. This exam usually lasts 30 to 40 minutes. You may be given instructions on a diet before your exam.

Uses for a Fluoroscopy

Fluoroscopic exams may include the following types of tests: barium swallow, upper GI series, small bowel series, barium enema, hystersalpingogram, voiding cystourethregram, myelogram, arthrogram, biopsy, lumbar punctures and facet injections. The advantages of real-time imaging and the freedom to freely position the X-ray field during examination make this test a very powerful diagnostic tool.
