X-ray is the original field from which radiology developed and is probably still the most commonly employed form of radiology. UCI has evolved to using Digital Radiology which is a form of radiography that has two distinct advantages: it uses much lower radiation (60% less than traditional) and it utilizes X-ray–sensitive plates to directly capture data during the patient examination, immediately transferring it to a computer system and then directly to the Radiologist without the use of an intermediate cassette.
